General Information
Reducing emissions in coal-fired power plants has become a priority in many countries. Effox-Flextor offers dampers and expansion joints for boiler (front-end) type applications such as Primary Air, Secondary Air and Overfired Air.
For pollution control (back-end) applications such as SCR and FGD applications Effox-Flextor offers expansion joints, louver dampers, and guillotine dampers that meet the most demanding specifications of some of the world's largest power suppliers.
SCR
Effox-Flextor has supplied dampers and expansion joints for the largest SCR applications in the world. Our design options include guillotine/slide gate dampers (in both chain drive and rack & pinion designs), louver and diverter dampers and expansion joints.
We can provide cost effective solutions by packaging both dampers and expansion joint products within one single source contract.
Our designs are the most robust in the industry. We use the following minimum safety factors:
- 300% safety factor on drive sizing
- 200% safety factor on seal air volume at a minimum of +3 inches of water gauge above system pressure
- Maximum 60% yield stress on all components
FGD
Effox-Flextor has supplied dampers and expansion joints for the largest FGD applications in the world. Our design options include guillotine/slide gate dampers (in both chain drive and rack & pinion designs), louver dampers and expansion joints.
We can provide cost effective solutions by packaging both dampers and expansion joint products within one single source contract.

ESP
Electrostatic Precipitators (ESP) and Fabric Filters (Baghouse) are highly efficient particulate removal devices with design efficiencies in excess of 99.5%. ESPs are the particulate emissions control technology which is most widely used on coal-fired power generating facilities. The choice between ESP and fabric filtration generally depends on coal type, plant size and boiler type and configuration.
Effox-Flextor has supplied heavy –duty dampers and expansion joints on ESP and baghouse applications around the world in the largest coal-fired power plants. Effox-Flextor dampers are used to isolate for maintenance and bypass situations, and to control flows going to the ESP or Baghouse. Our design options for ESP and Baghouse applications include guillotine/slide gate dampers (in both chain drive and rack & pinion designs), louver dampers and expansion joints.
Boilers
For Front-End boiler applications Effox-Flextor can supply dampers and expansion joints for all the principal combustion requirements of most boiler installations including:
- Primary Air (Hot and Cold)
- Secondary Air
- Tertiary Air
- Overfired Air
On most boiler applications the technical challenges include temperatures in the 600 degree F range, some dust loading and abrasion, and a requirement for flow control.
Baghouse
